Textile Treasures - Threads Through Time

Saturday and Sunday, August 16 & 17, 2008

Experience a variety of textile arts throughout Naper Settlement's village during the all-new "Threads through Time" weekend.

We are seeking quilts for a special display in the Meeting House. In addition to quilts, we would welcome quilted objects as well. We invite you to loan any pattern or style of your treasured quilts for this weekend. Download the application to share your textile treasure. >

All day events on Saturday and Sunday:

- Quilt display
- Building tours with enhanced textile information
- Rug hookers
- Display of special textile items from the Naper Settlement collection
- Child activity station
- Stitch-A-State Station quilting bee activity
- Textile Scavenger Hunt
- Junior's quilt demonstrations including two new junior quilts and Camp Hope quilt on display
- Display of silk embroidery art piece by Tan Jie
- Weed Ladies floral sale

Saturday

11 am-noon &
3-4 pm:

Tatting and knitting demonstrations by Sue Degges

noon-12:30 pm & 2:30-3 pm:

History of Hats and Fashion presentation by Noel Payne

1:30-2 pm:

"A History of Naperville as seen Through the Eye of a Needle - The remarkable Fabric Diaries of Hannah Ditzler Alspaugh" presented by Naper Settlement Research Historian Bryan Ogg

2 pm:

Storytelling by Caroline Finzer and book sale in the Museum Store

Sunday

1-2 pm:

Tatting and knitting demonstrations by Sue Degges

1:30-2 pm:

"A History of Naperville as seen Through the Eye of a Needle - The remarkable Fabric Diaries of Hannah Ditzler Alspaugh" presented by Naper Settlement Research Historian Bryan Ogg

2 and 3 pm:

Storytelling by Mary Kroening

2-3 pm:

Settlement Sunday Ice Cream Social in the Tavern

2:15-3 pm:

"Button, Button, Who's Got the Button?" lecture on the history of buttons and a display of antique buttons, presented by Sonni Helmer & Beverly Eisenstein of LeBouton
Antique button jewelry for sale in the Museum Store.

2-4 pm

Spinning Demonstration by Heather Hoskins

 

Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Sunday 1-4 p.m.

$8 adults, $7 seniors, $5.50. Naperville Heritage Society members and Season Pass Holders receive free admission.
