432 E. Chicago Ave.
Naperville, Illinois 60540

As part of its mission to encourage preservation of historic properties in the private sector, the Naperville Heritage Society has taken an active role in determining the historical and architectural significance of this home. For more information, click here.

The stately Victorian home at 432 E. Chicago Ave. was built in 1893 by Adolph Hammerschmidt, a successful businessman, who owned a stone quarry business in Lombard. The home was owned by Hammerschmidt descendants until 1938 when North Central College purchased it, dividing it into a duplex for two faculty members. During the 1940s and 1950s when there was a housing crunch, married students attending the college lived in the home. In 1961, Dan and Charlene O'Neill purchased the home and began renovations. The couple lived there until Dan's death in 2007. The home was sold in 2008 and is now owned by a local Realtor. The house is immediately available for purchase by someone interested in restoring the property and retaining it under the City of Naperville's landmark designation.
