School's Out - Hidden Treasures

Wednesday, November 26
Join us for exciting treasure-hunting adventures. You will seek and find clues, locations and hidden items using maps, compasses, puzzles, secret codes and high-tech GPS devices. Hide your own treasure and make a map for others to find. For boys and girls in 1st-5th grades. 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Bring a sack lunch and a drink.

Santa's Secret Workshop
Saturday, November 29

Parents can shop Naperville on one of the biggest shopping days of the year while the kids enjoy a fun-filled afternoon. Children will learn about holiday traditions, make a secret gift for mom or dad, write their letter to Santa, and snack on cocoa and cookies while listening to holiday stories. For boys and girls in kindergarten through fifth grades. 1-4:30 p.m.

Santa's youngest fans will love this visit with his cheery wife. Activities, stories, songs and a continental breakfast are included. Bring your cameras to capture a memorable moment.

History Speaks: An Intimate Conversation with the AuthorRochelle Pennington

Naper Settlement is pleased to announce a new spin-off program of the popular History Speaks Lecture Series. The program will debut in the Pre-Emption House Tavern where guests will enjoy hot cocoa and cookies while listening to author Rochelle Pennington talk about her book, The Christmas Tree Ship. Her multimedia presentation will feature Chicago's famous Christmas tree ship and details on one of the most well-known shipwrecks of the Great Lakes; including little-known facts about the ship's mysterious disappearance, clues washed ashore, ghost ship sightings of the phantom schooner and mysterious omens. 7-8 p.m.
$16/person, $14/Naperville Heritage Society members. Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase. Limited to 40 participants.

Long before video games and DVDs, people gathered around their black and white televisions to watch their favorite shows. Join in the nostalgic fun when kids of today learn about the fads of the 1950s and 1960s, like hula hoops, games, toys and fashions. Each day features new and challenging explorations. Each day is different. For boys and girls in 1st-5th grades. 9 a.m.-3 p.m. each day. Bring a sack lunch and a drink.

In this confidence-building class, children will have fun learning social etiquette techniques for everyday situations. The lively and interactive instruction includes practicing common courtesies with an updated twist, phone protocol, introductions, thank you notes, table manners and much more! 1-4 p.m. Grades 1-3.

School's Out - Clowning Around
Wednesday, April 1
Children will enjoy clowning around on April Fool's Day with face painting, tricks, clown school, balloon animals, juggling, and midway games. For boys and girls in 1st-5th grades. 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Bring a sack lunch and a drink.

School's Out - Junior Ecologist
Thursday and Friday, April 2 & 3
"Going Green" is the focus of learning from one of the first ecologist, Johnny Appleseed. Children will learn how to make apple sauce using an apple press, learn about recycling of the past and present and participate in a geocache tree hunt. Each day is different. For boys and girls in 1st-5th grades. 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Bring a sack lunch and a drink.

Blacksmithing 101 Class
April 18, 25 and May 2
Learn the history of blacksmithing with an introduction to safety, tools and the forge. Participants will learn hammer techniques while making an iron hook. For ages 18 and up. 9-11 a.m.

Victorian Secrets
November 7
Take a special behind-the-scenes tour of the beautifully restored Victorian Martin Mitchell Mansion. Discover how this DuPage County family helped rebuild Chicago after the Great Fire of 1871. Have a peek inside a traveling trunk for beauty and clothing secrets. 10 a.m.-noon

Victorian Holiday Traditions

Tour the Martin Mitchell Mansion in holiday splendor, then enjoy refreshments in the 1834 Tavern with a costumed interpreter. Discover the history of holiday traditions such as handmade straw star ornaments and more. 10 a.m.-noon
